Ridgefield Celebrates Installation of Solar Panels at Recreation Center

It was a time for celebration.  Thanks to the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund, Ridgefield now has a 15-kW  photovoltaic (PV) solar system on the Recreation Center's roof.  The 78 PV panels were installed last winter and are reducing the Rec Center's electric bill by $3,000 to $4,000 per year. On January 6, 2011, the solar system was officially dedicated at a ceremony that included First Selectman Rudy Marconi, Bob Wall of the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund and about forty guests.  [To download the press release about this event, see the link below. Additional news coverage is available in newstimes.com.]

Ridgefield earned the solar panels because of  residents who signed up for the "clean energy option" through CL&P - agreeing to pay a small surcharge on their energy bills to promote the development of renewable energy resources. As of October 2010, roughly five and half percent of households have signed up to support clean energy through the CTCleanEnergyOptions program.  With the support of our first selectman, RACE has played a key role in promoting the program and helping the town earn  the solar panels.  It's not too late for Ridgefield to earn additional ones- to find out how you can sign up  for clean energy go to http://www.ctcleanenergyoptions.com/.
